Yair Barak graduated with excellently from the Camera Obscura School of Art, Tel Aviv.
He later studied at the prestigious MFA program in Bard College of Art NY.
Barak's work deals with the ambivalence that photography suggests. His images are tempting as well as potentially threatening. Whether depicting landscapes, still life or cultural rituals, the gap between beauty and trauma is present.
Another dominant element is the tension between the figurative and the abstract. Although Barak's images are purely figurative, they hold an abstract essence, corresponding with other artistic practices such as sculpture and painting.
Yair has exhibited widely in Israel and his works are included in both private and public collections worldwide.
